Being
an intrinsic part of university is a
kind of experience which everyone wishes. A university student means intellectuality, gaining
more and more knowledge, analysis of subjects because it is our best time of
learning education in our life-period. Another meaning of a university student
is that if you have more money then you will be respected by others. In present
time, money defines your living standard, status, power and liberty. Money
means liberty and modernity. Being a university student means not only to get
degree or something. It can be a debatable issue. Being a student is a form of initiation .Naturally
student is usually attacked from the wrong point of view by the ruling class
society. None of us want to know that what I have to achieve? It is most needed
but no one care about this because today, we care about only market.
“Guy
Debord” a Situationist argued in his famous book” the society of
the spectacle” that spectacle is a fake reality which makes
capitalist degradation of human life.”.
in
examination, most of us want to pass. We are becoming factory
products. Colleges are factory and we are the products of factory.
Before 1991, in
university areas, there were many books’ centre, bunches of student discussion
with different issues, but today, there are so much showrooms, pubs etc. after
1990, Neo-liberalization came into India. It creates a big difference
in university students. Today,
students are moving towards fake reality. Today money defines what you are? Governments want to cut
subsidy in the sector of education. It is a totally unfair. Most developed countries talking about free
education while in India, we are going in reverse. Education and knowledge are now in consuming
culture. Our society became consumer society. Our government does not care
about education of labour class’ children. Delhi University, the leading university
of the country is now becoming more students centric and working hard for
producing better and trained graduates. The D.U. proposed a number of changes
and reforms which are more focused towards making students industry ready. It
has already introduced a couple of changes and reforms such as semester system,
4th year graduation system, meta university concept. These changes
are happening because of market demand. The kind of education provided here is
able to make students competitive, self reliant and expressive but
unfortunately this scenario is constrained only to the top colleges of
university. Others are working in the same commercial manner in which other
universities are. Students want to take admission in commerce courses,
economics courses because these courses are the demand of market. At one point
or the other, education is something that matters in life. This is something
making education a new market in globalization but definitely university and
students need to do something regarding this. Students unions are not working
well today while before 1990, university students were conscious about university reforms
issues, education reform issues. Student unions are focused to their
position in M.L.A. and M.P.
elections.
As far as liberty is concerned, students are free to
exercise their will but today because
of such undemocratic
decisions, we can say that
authority became dictator. Because of the
introduction of semester system recently life has turned upside down.
Everything is done in hurry which ultimately results in shaped concepts.
Overall there are merits
and demerits present in the system of universities. Merits needs more finishing
so that it can be taken to another level and demerits have to be corrected in
all possible ways. In universities, some changes should have happen because it
is necessary. These changes are like social security, our liberty,
our level of education. We need
to think seriously about the kind of education that is provided by the
prevailing system of schooling in India. As we move towards globalization
society rewards who do well in examinations.
We are not competitive. We are creating a bad
competition. Today, university student means consume education. Today a
relationship between student and university is like product of factory. Situation can be change. Students can make changes in
this system because the structure is such like that we are bound to structure.
Rights have given to the students that you
can protest, complain of the bad teacher to the
authority, to ask about any spend in college area but it is totally fake
reality. Naturally, in this situation students are usually attacked by the wrong
point of view by the ruling class. If we are supporting strike for the semester
system then there are taken many actions against the students while we are
asking in a democratic way that on which basis you want semester system in
university in a hurry. They have not any answer. The market has one central principle- the loss
of self in the aimless and unconscious creation of a world beyond the control
of its creators. For attack on this principle, We need reformation or
revolution. I think we need revolution to change system because without this we
can not do anything. Critique of system’s fake reality now became very
necessary because in this system, there is no care about student’s interest.
They force to be a part of this unfair system of education. We are focusing
towards quantitative education. We are not caring about quality education. I am
a student of Delhi University, one of the best university in India, but I think
college days are not happy days because we are not sure about our future.
Today, every day, every minute is important in this competitive world. If we do
something today think about the value added because of that what are you
thinking of achieving in life and how are going to achieve it. It does not
matter in which way you achieve the goal but you have to achieve your goal. We
are forced for good result in every subject even we are not interested. Why?
This is my college. For three years, it’s my home. There are some questions arise in my mind,
being a university student, what did I learn, what did I achieve?
